Global Business Fellows

Develop a Global Edge – No Matter Your Major

The Global Business Fellows (GBF) program at Georgetown equips students with the global perspective and practical skills needed to lead in today’s interconnected economy. Open to students in the McDonough School of Business and School of Foreign Service from any major, GBF blends business, geopolitics, and hands-on learning through practitioner-led simulations, global treks, and internships with leading organizations. Whether deepening the expertise of international business majors or providing a structured pathway for others to build global business acumen, the GBF program empowers students to translate Georgetown’s global strengths into real-world impact.

The Global Business Fellows Curriculum

Interdisciplinary Curriculum

Fellows complete a common set of courses in business and international affairs designed to enhance their understanding of the global business landscape. These courses complement — not replace — the student’s chosen major, adding both breadth and depth across disciplines.

Global Business Experience

As part of the program, fellows participate in a semester-long, faculty-led consulting course. In this course, students work in teams to address a real-world business challenge for an international client from the private, public, or nonprofit sector.

The course culminates in a comprehensive project and presentation. In many cases, students travel abroad to the client’s location for on-site delivery of findings to senior leadership.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Students are more engaged and have better learning outcomes when they interact with authentic issues and receive live feedback. With the goal of empowering and enabling future leaders in global business, the Baratta Center brings together Global Business Fellows and leaders in global businesses to work together on solving real-world issues.

Global Business Labs

Global business education teaches students how to analyze diverse markets, institutions, and multinational strategies, but in the professional world, solutions are often ambiguous and decisions are often made with a degree of uncertainty. The Baratta Center brings senior business executives and other global business leaders to the Hilltop to provide a unique, hands-on learning opportunity called a Global Business Lab (GBL) to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

GBL cultivates three core capabilities:

Students immerse themselves in live decision-making scenarios that mirror the complexity and constraints of global business practice. Each session centers on a consequential problem, practitioner framing and coaching, and student-led strategic response. Students will learn to navigate trade-offs, defend recommendations, and refine their thinking through expert feedback.

In the 2025-26 academic year, the Baratta Center will host two modules of the Global Business Labs:

  1. Global Investing Module: Doing a Global Private Equity Deal
  2. Global Trade Module: International Trade In Action

Each module will feature three sessions with experienced practitioners from companies such as Blackstone, Chevron, Walmart International, and more.

Global Treks

Each GBL module culminates in a Global Trek to business hubs around the world.

This year’s Global Investing Module will end with a trek to Blackstone headquarters in New York City. Students will engage in a dynamic private equity deal live case simulation based on a real investment scenario: analyzing a potential target company and developing a focused diligence work plan. Students will present their investment recommendation to their peers and Blackstone professionals, gaining insight into the strategic thinking and analytical rigor behind private equity decision-making.

The Global Trade Module will end with a trek to Panama, where Global Business Fellows will gain firsthand exposure to the dynamics of international trade through site visits to the Panama Canal and the Free Trade Zone, where they will examine how infrastructure, policy, and private enterprise intersect.

Short Co-Curricular Internship Projects

The Baratta Center’s internship program offers juniors in the Global Business Fellowship program the chance to participate in a six-week, part-time internship during their spring semester. Internships are designed in collaboration with sponsoring organizations, providing students with hands-on experience while contributing meaningful insights and specific solutions to the organization.

Each internship project will focus on particular skill development goals – such as market analysis and research, strategic planning, operations, benchmarking, and/or content evaluation, and some of the projects will also focus on the use of AI tools and reasoning in businesses and organizations.

Previous sponsors of internships include BMW Group, Project Last Mile, iFinca, and Ascend Now.

If you are interested in sponsoring or applying for an internship, please contact Joseph Feuer, director of membership and student programs, at joseph.feuer@georgetown.edu.
